Sponsorship & Promotional Opportunities
Nearly three million visitors enjoy coming to Carmarthenshire every year making it the fourth busiest tourist destination in Wales. Over 6,200 people are employed in this sector making 1/3 of billion pounds contribution to the economy in 2010.
Although tourism isn’t a statutory responsibility of Local Authorities, Carmarthenshire County Council (CCC) is a major stakeholder in delivering growth in this sector and through its Marketing & Tourism section carry out a diverse and innovative range of marketing activities to achieve them including primary research gathering, product development as well as resourcing a comprehensive & innovative promotional action plan.
We are working hard to integrate destination management into wider economic strategies so that it can support the area’s wider ambitions around driving enterprise, growth and employment. Marketing & Tourism are the section of the council with responsibility for delivering this but in order to ensure that tourism is not seen in isolation and is linked to the broader economic agenda, this section is part of the Economic Development Division alongside Business & Community Development & Physical Regeneration. The County Council provides both Destination Management & Destination Marketing support which is important because improving destinations is not just about building and promoting strong individual attractions but also requires an attractive public realm which is carefully designed to accommodate the needs of visitors too. They will have views on whether local signage for visitors (including the brown 'tourist destination' signs on motorways) works effectively. The elected members will make the principal decisions on the direction the Council will take. The Council operates a cabinet system with individual cabinet members undertaking specific roles. The Executive Board member with responsibilities for Tourism is Councillor Meryl Gravell OBE.
Our aims in 2012:
- Ensure Carmarthenshire is effectively & innovatively promoted as a vibrant area to visit and stay.
- Ensure Tourism is well represented at all CCC levels and in Destination Management.
- Carry out strategic reports and research (STEAM).
- Act as catalyst and relationship builder with both private, public & 3rd Sector to improve product.
